Costco Taiwan lets a primary member add one free household card for a spouse, parent, sibling, child aged 18 or older, or another person living at the same address. The primary member and applicant must provide identity documents, and the applicant must use the card issued in that person's name.
Costco Taiwan's membership amendment form requires signatures from both the primary member and household-card applicant. The same form asks for proof of a shared address when the applicant qualifies through residence rather than family relationship.
A household card is a named physical membership card, not a spare card that the family can pass around. That distinction matters at the entrance, checkout, returns desk and when a payment card or electronic receipt is tied to a transaction.
Who can receive the household card?
Costco Taiwan lists a spouse, parent, sibling, adult child or same-address household member as eligible for a household card. Its public page does not publish a separate document list for every relationship. The membership desk therefore decides whether the documents establish the relationship or shared residence.
For an application, download the amendment form or complete it at a warehouse membership desk. The primary member and applicant sign it, then present the form and identity documents. If the application relies on a shared address, ask the desk which current document it accepts before making a trip. The public form requires proof, but does not name one universal document that works for every household.

Guests and cardholders have different rights
Costco Taiwan's membership rules distinguish a member from a guest. A member may bring guests into the warehouse under the published guest limit, but the member remains responsible for the purchase and the guests. A guest who accompanies the primary member does not become a household-card holder.
That also means a relative cannot use the primary member's card when the primary member is absent. If a member forgets the card, Costco Taiwan describes a temporary membership-card process at the membership desk with photo identification. That process is different from lending the card to another person.
Can a household-card member pay separately?
Yes, the named household-card member can enter and check out with that person's own card. The shared element is the active membership relationship, not the primary member's photograph, card or account credentials.
Payment still has its own identity rule. Costco Taiwan says the membership card and credit card used at checkout must belong to the same cardholder. A household-card member should therefore not pair the primary member's credit card with the household card. Online orders have separate account and payment instructions, so the checkout account and selected receipt carrier should be checked before placing an order.
What the two cards share, and what they do not
The household card follows the primary membership's validity. If the primary member does not renew or cancels the membership, the household card does not continue as an independent membership. The primary member also controls applications, renewals, replacements and removal of the household card under Costco Taiwan's published rules.
The cards do not automatically share every transaction record. Costco Taiwan's online terms describe orders and electronic receipts inside the account used for the order, and list several possible receipt carriers. The published membership pages do not say that a household-card member can see the primary member's receipt carrier, purchase history or refund destination.
Returns are another boundary. Costco Taiwan says the member handling a return should bring the membership card, original payment card and relevant purchase information. The public rules do not say that a household-card member may return every purchase made by the primary member. Treat the two cardholders' return authority as separate unless the membership desk confirms otherwise.

How this plays out outside Taiwan
Costco membership is organized by market, so a household-card rule in Taiwan is a starting point rather than a global contract. Costco's country selector lists separate sites for the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, among other markets. Each site publishes its own membership types, prices and application path. A reader should open the local site before comparing a household card with a second full membership.
Australia provides a clear example of why the local page matters. Costco Australia's membership page lists Gold Star membership at A$65 per year and says it includes an additional household card. The same page says the membership is for individual use, can be used at Costco warehouses worldwide, and presents the additional card as part of the membership rather than as a second independently purchased membership. It also lists Gold Star Executive membership at A$130 per year and says that it includes an additional household card. The Australian page is therefore useful for checking the local price and the existence of the extra card, but it does not turn Taiwan's relationship-document requirements into an Australian application rule.
The United Kingdom uses a different price presentation. Costco UK's membership page lists Gold Star membership at £42 per year, including two membership cards for the member and spouse or partner. The page also lists an online-only membership at £42 and describes a separate additional-card option for some business memberships. Those categories should not be merged: a UK Gold Star card pair, a business add-on card and Taiwan's household-card application are different products with different eligibility conditions.
The practical lesson for a reader in the United States, United Kingdom or Australia is to identify the local membership type first. Check whether the page says “additional household card,” “spouse or partner,” or “additional cardholder.” Those phrases can describe different limits. Do not assume that a card available to a spouse can be reassigned to a sibling, adult child or unrelated housemate. If the local page does not explain the relationship test, ask Costco member services before paying, and keep the answer with the application record.
Cross-border shopping adds another question. Costco Taiwan says its membership card can be used at Costco warehouses worldwide, but the card's right to shop is not the same as the right to add a local household member. A Taiwan household card may be accepted when its named holder visits a warehouse abroad, while the local membership site may still control how a new cardholder is added in that country. The published pages reviewed here do not provide one worldwide matrix for residence evidence, card replacement, online account access or refund routing.
Price comparisons also need care. A$65 and £42 are local storefront prices, not exchange-rate conversions and not evidence that every country charges the same amount. Taxes, membership categories, promotional offers and renewal terms can change the amount shown at checkout. Use the local currency page for the market where the membership will be issued, then confirm whether the additional card is included, charged separately or limited to a particular relationship.
For a household that moves between countries, save the local membership number, the named cardholder's identity details and the receipt or account used for online orders. Ask the local membership desk which card can be used, who can authorize a return and how a household-card change is recorded. Those questions matter because the Taiwanese form requires both signatures and identity evidence, while the Australian and UK pages emphasize their own card bundles and membership categories. APPI News could not verify a universal Costco rule that resolves all of those differences.
What happens if someone lends the card?
Costco Taiwan's membership rules say a card is for the named member and may not be lent or transferred. The rules give Costco the power to refuse an application or cancel membership, and say the card must be returned when membership ends, is refunded or is canceled.
The rules do not state a fixed suspension period or promise that staff will confiscate a card at the entrance. Those outcomes should not be presented as automatic penalties. A relative who qualifies for a household card should apply for that person's own card instead of borrowing the primary member's card.
What happens after cancellation?
Costco Taiwan says a member can cancel during the membership period and receive a refund of the current year's membership fee. The household card ends with the primary membership. The public pages do not clearly identify the recipient of a refund connected with a household card or explain whether every electronic receipt remains visible after cancellation.
The amendment form contains a personal-data statement covering collection, processing and permitted use, including a period after membership ends. That statement is not proof that every online order, receipt carrier or purchase-history screen will remain available. Before canceling, save order numbers and receipts and ask the membership desk about any return, warranty or data-access request still open.
Checks before adding a household card
- Confirm the applicant's relationship or same-address basis under the local Costco site.
- Prepare identity documents for both people and ask what residence evidence the membership desk accepts.
- Make sure both required signatures are on the application.
- Use each card only by its named holder.
- Match the payment card to the member card used at checkout.
- Record which account and receipt carrier are used for online orders.
- Before cancellation, resolve returns and confirm who can access any needed records.
Frequently asked questions
Can a sibling who lives elsewhere receive the household card?
Costco Taiwan lists siblings as eligible through the family relationship route. Same-address proof applies when the applicant relies on the same-address route. The membership desk still decides which documents establish the relationship.
Can a spouse use the primary member's card?
No. A spouse who needs independent access should receive a card in that person's name. Costco Taiwan's rules prohibit lending or transferring a membership card.
Does the household card survive cancellation?
No. Costco Taiwan ties the household card to the primary membership, so it ends when the primary membership ends. Refund routing and post-cancellation access to electronic receipts are not fully specified on the public pages.
