Google One's English help page lists several student AI offers instead of a single worldwide free year of Google AI Pro. The listed offers require SheerID verification with a valid school email address, a personal Google Account and a qualifying payment method, while availability depends on the offer, country and account status.
The English page version reviewed for this report labels its no-cost 12-month trial Google AI Plus, while Google AI Pro appears as a discounted plan or as part of a YouTube Premium Student bundle. Earlier AI Pro trials from 2025 and early 2026 may remain active for those who redeemed them, but their old redemption pages do not establish current eligibility. Paid access also does not make generated claims authoritative; AI benchmarks can reward confident guesses over admitted uncertainty.
The 2025 Taiwan AI Pro deadline has passed
Google's Taiwan office announced on October 8, 2025, that higher-education students in Taiwan aged 18 or older could receive one year of Google AI Pro at no cost, with redemption closing on December 9, 2025. The 12-month period began when an eligible student redeemed the offer.
That campaign had a fixed deadline and cannot be claimed retrospectively. A student who redeemed it before the deadline may still be within the 12-month membership period, but a new applicant must use Google's current student portal and terms.
Google's English help page lists three offer formats
Google One's current English help page lists a no-cost 12-month Google AI Plus trial with 400 GB of storage, a discounted Google AI Pro plan for up to four consecutive years and a Google AI Pro plan bundled with YouTube Premium Student for up to four consecutive years. These are separate offers with different market rules.
Each format has its own market rules, and the excluded countries or regions are not identical across all three. Google tells students to sign in to explore the offers available to their accounts, so a general market list does not guarantee that a particular applicant will see a particular price or plan.
A school email verifies status; a personal account holds the plan
Google requires higher-education enrollment, student verification through SheerID with a valid school email address, a personal Google Account and a qualifying payment method. The school email establishes student status, while the personal account is used for the Google One subscription.
The same page says new and existing Google One members can qualify, but family-group members must leave their shared plan first. Members whose plans come through a third-party partner, Pixel Pass or Google Fi are excluded from the current student offers.
Google's public instructions require a valid school email but do not describe one alternative verification route that applies in every market. APPI News did not test the private SheerID workflow in each country and could not verify what alternative documents, if any, every applicant may be offered.
The application follows four published steps
Google directs applicants to its student-offer portal, which sends signed-out visitors to Google Account sign-in. Its published sequence is to select an offer, complete SheerID verification when prompted and finish the subscription flow, including adding a payment method if necessary.
The confirmation screen displays the exact plan name, storage allowance, offer end date and price for the paid period. Those details can vary by market and account, and the public help page does not provide a complete country-by-country price table.
Google says starting a student offer while using another extended Google One trial ends the earlier offer, while some changes from an existing AI Pro or AI Ultra plan take effect only after the current billing cycle. Applicants with an existing membership should therefore read the displayed transition date before subscribing.
A payment method also sets up possible renewal
Google says a student offer converts to a regular paid AI Plus or AI Pro plan when it ends, except in countries where the law requires it to obtain consent, and that it will notify the member before the change. The discounted Pro plan and the Pro bundle require SheerID reverification, usually every 12 months for up to four consecutive years. A member who does not reverify loses the offer and may be charged the regular membership price.
Canceling can also reduce the account's storage allowance after the current period. Google says an account that exceeds its no-charge storage quota cannot send or receive Gmail, upload or create Drive files, or back up new photos and videos.
Account and market rules shape application results
Eligibility checks begin with whether the selected offer supports the account's country or region. The subscription must use a personal Google Account with a qualifying payment method, and any family-group or excluded third-party membership must be resolved before verification. SheerID also requires a valid higher-education email address.
If all four conditions appear to be met and the portal still rejects the application, the public documentation cannot diagnose the account-specific result. APPI News could not verify a first-party list of account-level error codes or a guarantee that every recognized institution will pass automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Can students still claim Taiwan's 2025 free AI Pro year?
No. Google's Taiwan office set December 9, 2025, as that campaign's redemption deadline. Students applying now need to check the current Google One student portal instead.
Is the no-cost 12-month offer called AI Pro?
The English help page version reviewed for this report calls the 12-month offer a Google AI Plus student trial with 400 GB of storage. It lists AI Pro separately as a discounted plan and as part of a YouTube Premium Student bundle.
Can a school-issued Google account hold the subscription?
The current requirements specify a personal Google Account. A valid school email address is used for SheerID student verification.
Can a student apply without a school email?
Google's public instructions require a valid school email address for SheerID. The page does not describe one alternative-document process that applies in every country, and APPI News did not test the private verification flow for each market.
Does a no-cost trial require a payment method?
Yes. Google requires a Google Payments account with a qualifying form of payment at sign-up for the AI Plus trial and tells applicants to complete the payment step in the subscription flow.
Will the student offer start charging automatically?
Google says the offer converts to a regular paid plan when it ends, except in countries where it must obtain consent under the law. The checkout page provides the account's price and renewal date, and a member who does not want the paid plan can cancel before the transition.
