Spotify's United States and United Kingdom terms reviewed on August 29, 2026, require Premium Family members to be family members who reside at the same address. If Spotify cannot confirm an invited member's address, its English support pages give that member seven days to reverify before the account loses Family access.

This report checks Spotify's public pages for the United States and United Kingdom. The reviewed pages use the same address-verification language, but prices, plan availability and account interfaces can differ in other markets.

The rule is family members at one address

Spotify's United States paid-subscription terms classify Premium Family and Premium Duo as household subscriptions and require the plan manager and plan members to be family members residing at the same address. Spotify's United Kingdom terms state the same eligibility condition and say standard member accounts, excluding Kids and managed accounts, are asked to verify their home address when a household subscription is activated.

An invitation alone does not establish eligibility, and sharing login details is not a substitute for the family and address conditions. Members who reside elsewhere do not meet the rule published in either set of terms.

Spotify and YouTube both tie family-plan eligibility to an address, but their public timing rules differ. YouTube says it conducts an electronic address check-in every 30 days, while Spotify says only that it may seek reverification from time to time.

Spotify lists three verification triggers

Spotify's United Kingdom support page says a member must provide a full address when joining, after the plan manager changes the address or when Spotify cannot confirm the member's address. The United States support page lists the same three triggers.

The United Kingdom terms say Spotify may ask for home-address reverification from time to time. Neither reviewed set of terms gives a monthly, annual or other fixed interval, so a 30-day or once-a-year schedule cannot be inferred from Spotify's public documents.

Address entry depends on the payment country

Spotify says the plan manager can check or change the address on the Family page and can select only an address in the country where the payment method was issued. If an address does not autocomplete, the page says to enter the full address and select Find.

If search still fails, Spotify's United States page allows the member to select the relevant building, street name or a nearby public space or building, but says not to use someone else's address. That fallback addresses a search-interface problem; it does not remove the requirement to live with the plan manager.

A failed check starts a seven-day window

When Spotify cannot confirm information entered by an invited member, it says it sends an email asking the member to enter the full address again within seven days. A successful response keeps the account on Premium Family.

A failed response or a missed deadline removes the invited member's access and switches the account to Spotify Free. The same page says the member may rejoin the same Family or Duo plan, but cannot join a different Family or Duo plan for 12 months from the date verification failed.

Losing plan access is not the same as deleting the Spotify account. Spotify's United Kingdom plan-change page says playlists, saved music and settings remain when an account changes plans or leaves one.

The next step depends on residence and billing

A member who still lives at the plan address can compare the reverification email with the current support instructions, then enter the complete address through Spotify's address search. A member who has moved elsewhere no longer meets the published same-address condition and should review the plans available in that market.

Spotify says a Family or Duo member currently has to cancel the existing plan before switching, then may choose another Premium plan after the account returns to Spotify Free. A plan manager moving to a smaller plan selects which members remain on Premium; unselected members move to Spotify Free on the next billing date.

Accounts billed through a phone company, internet provider or another partner must first cancel through that partner and wait for the current Premium period to end. The absence of a change-plan option can therefore reflect the billing route rather than an address-verification problem.

Spotify does not publish its address-matching method

Spotify's support page says it does not track a member's location for this verification and checks the address the member provides. That statement describes the Family address check; it is not a complete inventory of data processed elsewhere in a Spotify account.

Spotify's United States terms say the address search uses Google Maps to help members find and set an address. The reviewed pages do not disclose the matching algorithm, confidence thresholds or process for resolving conflicting address information, and APPI News could not verify claims about other signals.

Frequently asked questions

Must every Spotify Premium Family member live at the plan address?
Spotify's reviewed United States and United Kingdom terms require the manager and members to be family members residing at the same address. An invitation does not override that condition.

How often does Spotify verify a Family address?
Spotify publishes no fixed interval in the terms reviewed for this report. It says reverification may occur from time to time and lists joining, a manager's address change and an unconfirmed address as triggers.

What happens after an address-verification email?
The invited member has seven days to submit the full address again. Failure or no response moves the account to Spotify Free and starts the published 12-month restriction on joining a different Family or Duo plan.

Are playlists deleted when Family access ends?
Spotify's United Kingdom support page says playlists, saved music and settings remain when an account changes plans or leaves one. Family access and stored account data are separate issues.
